Dream takes out Devonport yacht title
Dream has taken line honours in the Melbourne to Devonport yacht after leading from start to finish.
Skippered by Robert Green, the Pacific 50 Dream, the largest yacht in the race crossed the finish line at the Mersey River at 8.07pm on Friday.
Despite its comfortable win, conditions meant it missed the race record of 19h 32m 56s set by Prowler in 1998.
Dream is being chased by Merlion, skippered by Eddie Mackevicius with Bruce Early's Afrayed Knot and Mersea (Neil Sargeant) further back.
Merlion is expected to finish late Friday with the others early Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, in the Melbourne to Hobart race former Sydney to Hobart winner Oksana continues to hold a big lead.
Oskana was winner of the 2013 Sydney to Hobart (when it was known as Victoire) before being bought by Hobart-based Michael Pritchard last year.
The field chasing the Cookson 50 is tight with Tevake II, Addiction, Whistler and Alien in the hunt.
Arguably Australia's most challenging offshore race because of the route down the west coast, the 435 nautical mile event takes nearly two days at its fastest (the 2008 record is one day 17 hours) with Oksana due to arrive into Hobart early Saturday night.
