Cameron Green gives himself axe as Australia prepares to welcome back Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell

Cameron Green has made the selfless call to suggest he should drop out of Australia's line-up as the team awaits the return of Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell.

Maxwell (concussion) and Marsh (personal reasons) both missed Australia's 33-run win over England on Saturday, but are expected to face Afghanistan.

Marsh has rejoined Australia's World Cup camp after a brief trip back to Perth following the death of his grandfather.

Green was vaulted into Australia's XI against England due to the absences of Maxwell and Marsh, and performed admirably, scoring 47 off 52 deliveries.

However, he's not expecting to keep his spot.

"We want the best team out on the field, and unfortunately, I'm missing out," Green said.

"We're playing some great cricket, winning five in a row, so we must be doing something right.

"I think they're (Maxwell and Marsh) straight back in.

"We're so excited to get Mitch back and then Maxi, I think it's an eight-day (concussion) protocol (that ends) on the (match) day, so I think he's all good to go."

Marcus Stoinis was the other beneficiary of Maxwell and Marsh's absences, and made a 32-ball 35 to keep Australia's innings afloat.

Marsh and Maxwell's returns are a massive boost for Australia ahead of a likely semi-final berth.

Australia currently sits third on the World Cup table, and faces a dangerous Afghanistan side on Tuesday night, with the Afghans having already claimed the big scalps of England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka so far in the tournament.
