Windies no easybeats says Lehmann

Australia's idling middle-order batsmen have been warned by coach Darren Lehmann that it's time to find top gear against the West Indies.

Lehmann says he's long been concerned at the output of Australia's middle-order batting, but says the unheralded Windies won't be easy road kill in the three-Test series starting in Hobart next Thursday.

"We'd like to see a lot more runs," Lehmann told reporters in Adelaide on Thursday.

"Obviously the first two Tests (against New Zealand) our top order did most of the work.

"I'd like to see our middle order make some more runs and that has been the case for a little while now.

"It's time for those guys to step up and really put their mark on the competition."

While most pundits rate the inexperienced West Indies as easybeats, Lehmann was wary.

"One thing I do know is they bowl very well, they have got a good bowling attack," he said.

"The batters are young, so obviously they are going down a path where they are trying to stick with a core group.

"For us, we certainly can't take them lightly.

"We have just got to make sure we make enough runs to put pressure on them."
