Windies beat World XI in charity match

Evin Lewis' blistering half-century and Samuel Badree's miserly bowling have led the West Indies to an emphatic 72-run victory over the World XI in the Hurricane Relief Twenty20 Challenge.

Lewis' 58 from 26 balls, which included five sixes and as many fours, set the tone for the West Indies' 4-199, with Marlon Samuels contributing 43 and Denesh Ramdin closing on 44 not out.

Spinner Badree then claimed two wickets in his first two overs, before ending with figures of two for four as the reigning ICC World Twenty20 champions prevailed at Lord's.

From 4-8 in just the fourth over there was no way back for the World XI, despite Thisara Perera's impressive half-century.

The Sri Lankan made 61 off 37 balls, striking three sixes and seven fours in the process, but he was the only player from the World XI line-up to score more than 12 as the West Indies bowlers kept a tight rein on proceedings.

And, with Tymal Mills unable to bat, the World XI's challenge ended when Mitchell McClenaghan became the ninth wicket to fall with the score on 127 and more than three overs unused.

Kesrick Williams finished with 3-42 and Andre Russell claimed 2-24.

The charity match was to raise funds to rebuild stadia in Anguilla and Dominica ravaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017.
