Cricket prodigy Will Pucovski will take an indefinite break from competition to receive treatment for a mental health-related illness.

The 20-year-old batsman has been highly touted to make the leap to the Australian Test squad after making waves in domestic cricket that culminated in an impressive double-century scored last week.

On Friday, Cricket Victoria however announced that the rising star would bravely be taking a break to deal with mental-health issues.

“Will’s health remains our highest priority and Cricket Victoria’s medical staff will continue to provide support to Will during this time,” Cricket Victoria’s Doctor Trefor James said.

Pucoski scored a remarkable 243 in a Sheffield Shield match for Victoria against West Australia prompting pundits to call on Australian coach Justin Langer to select the youngster for the Test squad.

Those plans may have to be put on hold with preservation the number one priority.

"Will is a terrific young player and we need to do what’s best for him at this time. We’ll continue to work with our medical staff to determine the best training and preparation plan to support Will at this time,” Cricket Victoria General Manager – Cricket Shaun Graf said.
