Wessels takes one to the grill

Sydney Sixers opener Riki Wessels kissed his helmet after the protective grill saved him from serious injury during his side's Big Bash semi-final against Adelaide.

The 29-year-old was struck by a bouncer from Adelaide paceman Kane Richardson in the fourth over, with the ball being caught between the peak of his helmet and the protective face grill.

And his helmet came in for further punishment just a few overs later, when Wessels was struck again by a Shaun Tait delivery.

Wessels was eventually dismissed for 24, with the Sixers securing an 87-run win to advance into the Big Bash League final.
