Warner raises his bat to Hughes on 63
An emotional David Warner has looked skyward and raised his bat to the heavens in a tribute to Phillip Hughes after reaching 63 in the First Test against India.
The figure was significant as it was the score that Hughes was on in his final innings when he was fatally struck by a bouncer.
Warner was in the field when Hughes was hit and was among the first to reach him after the incident. He rode alongside his good friend as he was taken off the SCG in a medicab.
Warner cast aside any concerns about his mental fitness for the match, smashing India’s pace attack to all parts of the Adelaide Oval in a breathtaking onslaught on the first morning.
