Warner joins elite company with seventh ODI century of 2016

David Warner’s second ODI century in four days - and seventh in 2016 - placed the swashbuckling opener in rarified air as Australia completed a clean sweep of New Zealand in the Chappell-Hadlee one-day series against New Zealand.

The punishing left hander, who rescued Australia from an early hole in the third one-day clash against New Zealand at the MCG, now has only Sachin Tendulkar ahead of him on the list of most 100s in a calendar year.

Tendulkar scored nine centuries in 34 matches in 1998, a conversion rate below that of Warner who has seven tons in 23 matches this year.

While Warner’s brilliant 156 still came at better than a run a ball, it was a measured innings by his usual standard.

Another Indian, Sourav Ganguly, also scored seven 100s in a year, achieving the feat in 32 matches in 2000.
