Warner falls foul of commentators curse in first Test against South Africa

Has there ever been a better example of the commentator’s curse than what Mark Nicholas dropped on David Warner on day two of the first Test between Australia and South Africa in Perth?

''Never been out in the 90s,’’ Nicholas said after Warner reached 97. ''Mark, sorry, what did you just say then,’’ came the forboding reply from Warne.

''In a Test match he has never been out in the 90s,’’ Nicholas replied with a cheeky grin on his face.

Warne must have been able to sense something when he groaned, ''Oh, no.’’

And yep, you guessed it. On the next ball Warner knicked a Dale Steyn delivery to first slip and he was out in the 90s.

Warner trudged off and Warne laid the boot in to Nicholas again.

The Australian opener obviously didn’t hear a word of it, but when you’ve got to blame someone Nicholas set himself up as the obvious target.

Nicholas could be best advised to steer clear of Warner over the coming days.
