Sheffield Shield: Cam Bancroft fails again at the WACA

Cameron Bancroft's leg-side troubles have continued after getting out cheaply in Western Australia's Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia at the WACA Ground.

WA went to lunch on day one at 2-63, with Shaun Marsh on 18 alongside Marcus Stoinis (13).

Bancroft fell for 12 off 47 balls after fending a catch to Jake Weatherald at leg gully.

It's the fourth time this Shield season in seven digs that Bancroft has fallen in that manner, leaving his average at just 11.5 this campaign.

Redbacks paceman Joe Mennie (2-15 off seven overs) claimed both wickets to fall during the morning session, while Wes Agar (0-9 off eight overs) has been economical.

Debutant WA opener Jake Carder was the first to fall when he tried to leave a rising delivery but instead played it onto his stumps.

Bancroft was lucky to survive on 11 when he edged Agar behind and wicketkeeper Alex Carey dropped the chance.

Carey should have gobbled up the catch after managing to get both gloves to the ball as it sailed shoulder-height to his right.

Australia's ODI wicketkeeper would have been breathing a huge sigh of relief a short time later when Bancroft fended Mennie to short leg and Weatherald snared a sharp catch.

Bancroft was released from the Test squad after missing the final XI for the clash with Pakistan at Adelaide Oval, but he is on standby as a concussion sub.

His fighting 49 for Australia A against Pakistan earlier this month has kept him in the Test picture, but his poor Shield form would be a big worry.

WA currently sit third on the Shield ladder, while SA are fifth.
