Australia are set to reveal a massive selection shock ahead of the third Ashes Test at Leeds, dropping opener Cameron Bancroft in favour of Marcus Harris.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Harris is set to earn his Ashes debut while James Pattinson is understood to be returning to the attack in place of Peter Siddle.

Despite failing to impress at the crease this series, there was a widespread sentiment that Bancroft would survive selection for Leeds.

But it appears Australian selectors have swung the axe, particularly in light of Steve Smith's omission.

Marnus Labuschagne will resume his post after stepping in for Smith at Lord's, impressing with crucial 59 in Australia's second innings.

The changes to the squad won't be confirmed until the toss at Leeds. Harris seems to be the player the team needs at the top of the order having scored two fifties against India.

Bancroft had the backing of former Australian captains Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor, in the end it mattered little to the selectors who deem him to be too much of a risk at the top of the order.

The West Australian has had a tough time at the crease against England, producing scores of eight, seven and 13.

He even struggled in the tour game against Worcestershire with his match-winning knock of 93 n.o. during Australia's intra-squad match in Southampton, the only performance saving grace for the out of sorts batsman.

Usman Khawaja and David Warner have also had their moments at the top of the order. Warner is yet to post a double score while Khawaja has failed to score a half century in his past ten innings.
