Stokes stuns de Villiers with freakish catch

Ben Stokes is probably the best all-rounder in the world and the England star did nothing to erode his status after stunning AB de Villiers with a spectacular running catch.

South Africa was 2-151 in pursuit of England’s mammoth 399 when de Villiers smashed Moeen Ali out to the long-on boundary, with the shot seemingly destined for either six or four. 

Or at least that was the case until Stokes intervened.

Footage shows the England all-rounder charge around from long-on and take the blistering shot behind him with just his right hand.

The stunning catch even left de Villiers, himself capable of freakish pieces of fielding, gobsmacked.

England went on to triumph by 39 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method in the rain affected first ODI.
