South Africa's Kagiso Rabada facing ban for bumping Australian captain Steve Smith in second Test

South African spearhead Kagiso Rabada could miss the rest of the Test series after being charged with a level two code of conduct for his brush with Australian captain Steve Smith.

The incident happened on day one of the second Test in Port Elizabeth after Rabada gave Smith a send-off trapping him lbw for 25 and charged down the wicket to celebrate with his teammates.

Rabada already has a poor record and a level two breach of the International Cricket Council’s code of conduct carries a maximum of a 100 per cent match point and 3-4 points penalty.

Rabada is already sitting on 5 points and an additional 3-4 would result in a two-Test suspension, ruling him out of the rest of the series.

Cricket.com.au has reported the South African quick will contest the charge at the completion of day two at a hearing before match referee Jeff Crowe.

Rabada will argue that the contact was accidental and his charge will be downgraded.

It is the second time Crowe has been called into action during this series after he was forced to rule on the off-field altercation between Australia’s David Warner and South Africa’s Quinton de Kock.

Warner was also charged with a level two code of conduct breach and narrowly avoided a ban, while de Kock was charged with a level one offence for his role in the incident.
