Proteas to experiment in warm-up v SA XI

South Africa will likely juggle its batting order to give key players valuable time at the crease in the two-day tour game against a South Australian XI from Thursday.

The fixture at suburban Glenelg Oval is the last game for the Proteas ahead of the first Test against Australia starting November 3.

South African batting coach Neil McKenzie says the tour match will be a crucial chance for batsmen to get their eyes in against a red ball.

The tourists played a pink-ball tour game against a Cricket Australia XI last weekend, coming off a 5-0 limited overs triumph against Australia with the white ball.

"Now it's just back to red ball, getting the techniques organised, getting the minds right," McKenzie said.

South Africa's top order would likely be reshuffled to give those most in need an opportunity.

That means renowned performers like Hashim Amla, JP Duminy and Quenton de Kock, who all made runs against the CA XI, may be on light duties.

"We rely a lot of the guys' individual preparation," McKenzie said.

"A guy like Hashim Amla, if he says he's had enough and he's in a good space, we will try and push him further down the order.

"It's more just trying to listen to the individual and try and cater for him as much as we can."
