Wind wreaks havoc with ground staff

Most cricketers are used to the wind wreaking havoc at Port Elizabeth but the powerful gust that the swept the ground during the First ODI between South Africa and Sri Lanka at St George's Park provided one groundsman with a whole new challenge.

With a host of ground staff desperately trying to hold on to the covers, the commentator can't help but laugh as a strong wind whips across the ground and turns the fabric into a sail.

Sure enough, it isn't too long before one groundsman, who is lying flat on his stomach trying to hold a corner, is dragged one-armed across the pitch.

To his credit he never lets go, even when he loses his sunglasses during his short trip.

Afterwards, and safely on the sidelines, he manages a laugh with the rest of the ground staff as they watch a replay of the incident.

It also proved a good omen for the Proteas who scored a comfortable eight-wicket win over the visitors.
