Pietersen chasing maiden Twenty20 title

Kevin Pietersen insists personal glory isn't a motivating force as he eyes an elusive Twenty20 title.

Pietersen has played almost 150 T20 matches around the world, collecting cheques here and smashing sixes there.

The 35-year-old has delivered match-winning knocks in India, South Africa, the West Indies, England and Australia.

But for all his 1783 runs in the format, the Melbourne Stars' gun recruit has never played for a champion T20 franchise.

"I know," Pietersen smiled.

"It is what it is.

"If I go throughout my career and don't win one, but have the most amazing time like I'm having at the moment, then I couldn't care less."

That sort of no-fuss demeanour delivered the Stars a home Big Bash League final against the Sydney Thunder.

The Englishman crafted a polished 62 to guide the Stars to a seven-wicket win over Perth in their semi-final.

The same side had lost all four of their previous semis.

Pietersen spoke of the need to keep things simple and not worry about that record in the lead-up to Friday's game.

The right-hander continued to preach his mantra of indifference when asked about Sunday's BBL decider following his man-of-the-match innings.

"Consequences? Why worry about consequences? Why worry about results? We're not even going to worry about Sunday," Pietersen said.

"We've got no interest in Sunday.

"If we win, we win."

Pietersen pointed to an incident-laden career with England as the key to his relaxed approach.

"Every time I walked out to bat, I had people gunning me for 10 years. So my personal way of dealing with that is to take all the pressure away," he said.

Pietersen noted coach Stephen Fleming "lives off exactly the same mantra".

"He's not worried bout consequences. He's not worried about results," he said.

"He's worried about how we perform and how we prepare."
