Handscomb dismissed in unusual fashion

It was the moment that Peter Handscomb nearly got away with.

The Australian batsman had barely finished celebrating his second Test century and looked to be on track for a bigger score when he hit his wicket trying to squeeze a ball out a ball from Wahab Riaz.

The only problem was no-one seemed to notice it at the time and play continued on as the ball rolled out to deep backward point and Handscomb set off for a single.

Wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed noticed something was amiss with a bail on the ground promoting replays to find out what had happened.

“We just have a little moment here,’’ Nine commentator Michael Slater said.

“We’re just having a look where and why the bails are off? Is there a hit wicket?”

The evidence showed that Handscomb, who was standing well within his crease, had clipped the stumps by the barest of margins and he had to walk.

It was a disappointing finish but in no way diminished his milestone of becoming the first Australian batsman in nearly 100 years to post four half-centuries from as many Tests.
