Tim Paine questions accuracy of ball-tracking system after first Test defeat

Tim Paine questions the accuracy of the decision review system which denied Australia multiple wickets in their Test loss to India.

Spinner Nathan Lyon had three wickets overturned on review in the Adelaide Test, with Paine particularly doubting ball-tracking technology.

"A lot of balls seem to be going over the top of the stumps (on ball-tracking)... that live don't look like they are," Paine said.

Asked if was hard for a computer to know the state of a pitch, Paine replied: "I think so.

"It's not a perfect system. And I haven't got the answers," he said.

"It's just frustrating. I would imagine it's frustrating for everyone.

"But it is what it is. It's one of those things, you can't do much about it."

Paine said the Australians followed a procedure when using the review system.

"From a bowling and in the field perspective, we've got a process we go through with myself and the bowler," he said.

"Nathan Lyon's at point a lot, he gives us the indication of height.

"You have to take everyone's piece of information and make good decisions. We got a couple wrong but that can happen."

Opening batsman Aaron Finch copped criticism for not reviewing after being given out, caught at bat-pad, in Australia's second innings.

Replays were inconclusive that the ball touched his glove but Paine said the Australian camp were told the decision wouldn't have been overturned on review.

"Aaron felt something on his glove - it ended up being his pad," he said.

"That can happen."
