NZ star Martin Guptill made his intentions clear early in the first ODI against Australia, belting a huge six that landed on the roof of Eden Park.

Guptill, who had one after opening the batting for the Black Caps alongside Brendan McCullum, leapt on a full-length delivery from Kane Richardson, pummelling the ball back down the ground and out of sight.

Television replays show that even Guptill was astonished as the ball sailed onto the stadium roof, with broadcast technology estimating it would have travelled 113 metres.

The six punctuated some fierce early hitting from New Zealand, who were perhaps surprisingly sent in by Aussie captain Steve Smith after he won the toss.
