Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will miss the second Test at Adelaide Oval with a side strain injury.

Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett have been called up into the squad as cover, Cricket Australia confirmed on Saturday.

Both Abbott and Doggett are fast bowlers and join all-rounder Beau Webster as the new faces in the squad.

"Hazlewood will remain with the group in Adelaide to prepare for the remainder of the series," CA said in a statement.

Victorian paceman Scott Boland is tipped to come into the XI, having been named in the initial squad.

Boland has 35 wickets from 10 Tests at an average of 20.34.

Doggett played in the 2018 series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, but he's yet to make his international debut.

If he gets the nod he would become the fifth Indigenous player to play a Test for Australia.

The others were Jason Gillespie, Faith Thomas, Ash Gardner and Scott Boland.

Doggett, 30, claimed 6-15 in Australia A's victory over India A and also took a five-wicket haul during last week's Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia in Adelaide.
