Alyssa Healy has defied the odds, overcoming illness concerns to power Australia to a commanding eight wicket victory over South Africa in their T20 International clash.

The captain was in doubt to face the Proteas, but stepped up to the crease with one thing on her mind - winning.

Healy helped do just that, smashing 46 off just 28 deliveries to set up a neat run chase for the hosts at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

After South Africa set a total of 6-147, it was not only Healy who stood up when her side needed it.

Beside her was Beth Mooney, who led the charge with an unbeaten 72 off 57 balls.

But even Mooney, who was named player of the match for her heroics with the bat, was in awe of what her captain pulled off.

"We know that Alyssa Healy does everything she can to play for Australia," Beth Mooney told the media post match.
