Mitchell Starc has broken all IPL Auction records, sold to the Kolkata Knight Riders for $4.42 million just hours after teammate Pat Cummins broke the previous record.

That equates to about $15,000 for every ball Starc bowls, based on the average of 290 balls he bowled during each of the two seasons he played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014 and 2015.

Cummins was earlier sold in the auction for $3.66 million, the previous highest ever bid in the history of the competition.

After an intense bidding war between four teams, Cummins landed at the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Cummins will join Australian teammate and World Cup hero Travis Head, who was sold for $1.22 million.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith and Josh Inglis did not get picked up during the bidding.
