Nevill struck on the head by skidding return

Test gloveman Peter Nevill was forced from the field at the SCG last night after being struck in the head by a return in one of the most bizarre incidents of the Big Bash so far.

Nevill was keeping for the Melbourne Renegades against the Sydney Sixers when a throw from Chris Tremain beat the keeper's attempted catch after skidding off the slick square, which was damp after intermittent showers in Sydney.

The blow caused Nevill to sink to the ground and the match was stopped to allow Renegades medical staff to treat their wicketkeeper.

After a lengthy delay, the bemused keeper was then taken from the ground to undergo a concussion test with skipper Aaron Finch taking the gloves.

He returned to the ground a short time later and although no chances were missed in his absence, the incident was no help for the Renegades, who went down to the Sixers by six wickets.
