Cricket: Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon stitched up by commentators in Durban

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon is the type of guy who doesn’t take himself too seriously and that feature of his personality was definitely on show during the first session of the first Test against South Africa in Durban.

Lyon was sitting in the pavilion with quicks Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins as David Warner and captain Steve Smith were out in the middle.

The player affectionately known as “Garry”, pulled out a pair of binoculars to get a better view of the action when the commentary team took it up on themselves to stitch “Gaz” up.

While Lyon was taking in the action through the binoculars, the producers of the live broadcast cut to vision of some female attendees watching the match from a section in the stands.

Commentators Kepler Wessels and Mike Haysman then decided to have a bit of fun with Lyon.

“Kepler, I’m presuming he’s looking at the pitch,” Haysman said.

“Kepler, he’s watching the pitch?”

Wessels couldn’t contain himself, laughing as he responded

“I’m sure he is. He’s concentrating on his craft. His skill set”.

It was clear all three players were following the live broadcast of the game because as soon Wessels finished stitching up Lyon, the spinner along with Starc and Cummins burst into fits of laughter.
