Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has stolen the hearts of cricket fans with a classy gesture for Australia's women's cricket team.

The Australian team is currently in the middle of a multi-format Test series against India on the Gold Coast.

Starc, the husband of wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy, has been with the side for much of the series and has often been spotted on the boundary with the squad.

After the Australians struggled on the opening day of the Test on Thursday, it was revealed Starc purchased new spikes for all the bowlers, who all appeared to be wearing shoes that didn't suit the conditions.

"It was actually the first day's play when Stella Campbell was bowling," former Australian captain Lisa Sthalekar told Fox Cricket.

"She had to put a bit of sawdust on (the crease). The bowlers came off and Starc said, 'Have you got your long spikes?'.

"The girls were like, 'We've just got our normal spikes'.

"So what he did was he actually went out and bought all the bowlers long spikes so they have a different set just in case, depending on the conditions."

Campbell revealed she used her new set of spikes immediately after Starc purchased them.

"I was slipping on the first day with my front foot, so Mitch Starc asked if we had any long spikes," she said.

"I've never worn any before and none of us had any. So he went out and bought them all for us.
