Katich to coach in Caribbean Twenty20

Former Australia opening batsman Simon Katich's rise through cricket's coaching ranks continues, with the 41-year-old to become head coach of Caribbean Premier League franchise Trinbago Knight Riders.

Katich is replacing another Australian, Simon Helmot, who has departed the Twenty20 side after three years in charge, to take up the position of head coach of Bangladesh's high performance program.

"It's an exciting opportunity to coach a successful franchise like TKR in the Hero CPL and also great to extend the association with the Knight Rider Family from KKR to TKR," Katich said.

Since retiring from playing, Katich has undertaken a number of leadership roles both in cricket and also with AFL side Greater Western Sydney, and is currently an assistant coach with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition.

Katich played 56 Tests for Australia and averaged 45.03 with the bat, and also captained Big Bash side Perth Scorchers to their maiden title, with the Scorchers having since named their player of the season award the Simon Katich Medal.
