Johnston re-appointed NSW cricket coach

Cricket NSW has re-appointed Trent Johnston coach of the Blues for another two seasons.

A former NSW fast bowler and Ireland captain, Johnston took over the Blues two years ago after NSW stalwart Trevor Bayliss was named coach of England.

The Blues have won consecutive one day cup titles under Johnston but haven't had quite as much success in the longer form of the game, not making a Sheffield Shield final during that time.

Cricket NSW CEO Andrew Jones praised Johnston for his contribution.

"In his time as coach TJ has seen Nic Maddinson make his Test debut, Moises Henriques regain his place in a number of Australian teams and Kurtis Patterson continue to perform in Sheffield Shield and for Australia A," Jones said.

"He also had Ed Cowan turning back the clock for his best season and Wil Somerville standing tall as a dominant spinner."
