Injury jinx strikes again for Sri Lanka

As if a crushing loss was not bad enough.

Sri Lanka have received another blow with confirmation injured key paceman Lahiru Kumara will be sidelined for up to six weeks after Australia's pink-ball Test rout in Brisbane.

Sri Lanka were left stranded at 9-139 in their second dig with Kumara unable to bat, ensuring Australia romped to an innings-and-40-run first Test victory within three days.

Kumara will miss not only the second Test in Canberra starting on Friday but also Sri Lanka's tour of South Africa next month as their injury curse strikes again.

"According to our physio, he is out for four to six weeks so he is definitely out of the South African tour," Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal said.

Kumara had not been sighted since being unable to bowl after the dinner break on day two at the Gabba.

He broke down just days after Sri Lanka were forced to inject two-Test quick Vishwa Fernando into their tour squad.

Fernando was rushed in to replace fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep who suffered a hamstring strain in their tour match in Hobart.

Pradeep lasted just two overs against a Cricket Australia XI.

Sri Lanka were already reeling from a hamstring complaint that ruled world-class allrounder Angelo Mathews out of the two-Test series in Australia.

Former skipper Mathews retired hurt during the Boxing Day Test against New Zealand in Christchurch after pulling up lame while running between wickets.

At least Sri Lanka have reserve quick Kasun Rajitha waiting in the wings ahead of the second Test in Canberra.
