Brisbane Heat's West Indian star Deandra Dottin has been taken to hospital with suspected concussion after a nasty head clash with teammate Laura Harris.

The pair collided heavily attempting to stop a boundary and both players were treated on the field, before Dottin was taken off on a stretcher.

Harris remained at the ground but took no further part in the match against WBBL leaders Melbourne Stars at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.

Harris was only playing in the match after replacing fast bowler Holly Ferling who was rested after hitting her head on the ground in the Boxing Day match between the same two teams.

The Heat secured a thrilling five-run win with the match turned after the dismissal of Stars and Australia captain Meg Lanning for 50.

The Heat have a six-day break now before meeting Sydney Thunder on January 2.
