Jarryd Hayne has gone in to bat for Chris Gayle, calling for the under-fire West Indies star to be given a second chance.

Hayne posted a photo of the pair embracing with a handshake at Coogee Beach on Tuesday with the caption: "Teaching the bruv some manners on speaking to women in oz! #goodbloke #2ndchance".

The post had received more than 24,000 likes on Wednesday morning, with comments largely supporting Gayle.

"Good on you @jarrydhayne38 - over the top reaction," one user commented.

"Teach him also that some aussie women need to loosen up @jarrydhayne38," another said.

A small number of users expressed disappointment with Hayne for backing Gayle.

"One set of rules for everyone else and one set of rules for these flops."

Gayle was fined $10,000 by his BBL franchise the Melbourne Renegades after a now infamous sideline interview where he attempted to flirt with reporter Mel McLaughlin, telling her "don't blush baby".
