Melbourne Renegades all-rounder Dan Christian has been savaged following an audacious appeal on a bump ball against the Adelaide Strikers.

The Strikers were early into their innings when Jake Weatherald drove a ball into the point region where it was fielded by a diving Christian.

However, despite the ball clearly being driven into the ground by Weatherald, Christian appealed, forcing the umpires to go upstairs to review the call.

During the review process, Christian's teammate Tim Ludeman revealed that the former Australian all-rounder had spent the night in hospital.

"He might be seeing things, he was in the hospital this morning," Ludeman told Fox Cricket.

"He's probably not seeing the ball clearly at the moment.

"He got a nasty bout of food poisoning, so he's been in hospital since four o'clock in the morning."

After a short review confirmed the fact that the ball was driven into the turf, Fox Cricket commentator Adam Gilchrist unloaded on Christian.

"He is hallucinating," Gilchrist said.

"Because we've just seen a camera angle and that's been hit firmly into the pitch.

"Can you just go and ask him what medication he was on this morning to get over that food poisoning?"
