Glenn Maxwell's Test recall hopes dashed after breaking leg in 'freak' accident at friend's party
Glenn Maxwell's hopes of a Test recall have received a major blow with the all-rounder breaking his leg in a freak accident on Saturday night.
Maxwell is set to miss up to three months due to the injury which is understood to have occurred at a 50th birthday party.
According to The Age, Maxwell was running around with his friend on a tennis court when the pair tripped and fell, with Maxwell's leg trapped under his friend's. Neither Maxwell nor his friend are believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The 34-year-old fractured the fibula in his left leg and underwent surgery on Sunday afternoon.

"Glenn is in good spirits. It was an unfortunate accident and we feel for Glenn in the circumstances given he was in great touch in his last few games," national selection chair George Bailey said.
"Glenn is a critical part of our white-ball structure and we will continue to support him through his recovery and rehabilitation."
Maxwell had been planning to play Sheffield Shield cricket for the first time since 2019 in a bid to be named in Australia's Test squad to face India beginning in February.
He has not played a Test for Australia since September 2017 and has made just seven appearances for his country in the longest format of the game.

Maxwell's injury is also a massive blow to the Melbourne Stars' upcoming BBL campaign, with the club describing it as a "freak" incident.
"Glenn is obviously a huge part of the Melbourne Stars and we wish him well in his recovery," Stars general manager Blair Crouch said in a statement on Sunday.
"He will continue to be a key part of the club during the start of the season as he works his way back to full fitness and we look forward to seeing him soon."
Maxwell has been replaced by Sean Abbott in Australia's ODI squad that is set to face England in a three-match series beginning this week.
