Australia have won the toss and elected to bat in a rain--delayed second Champions Trophy warm-up at Edgbaston.

Skipper Steve Smith returns to the side after sitting out last Friday's opening warm-up against Sri Lanka at The Oval.

Each team can play up to 15 players, but only 11 batsmen on a shortened pitch with the onside boundary just 42 metres from the wicket.

Mitchell Starc and John Hastings are also recalled with Glenn Maxwell sidelined after suffering a bruised knee in the two-wicket win against The Lions.

Rain delayed the start by over two hours with play now scheduled to begin at 12.45 (21.44 AEST) and each team will bowl a reduced number of 34 overs.

Showers are forecast in the Birmingham area throughout the day with Australia to begin their Champions Trophy campaign against New Zealand at Edgbaston on Friday.
