Finch impressed with Zampa's T20 tune-up

Aaron Finch says Adam Zampa bowled without luck but was far from outclassed in Australia's World Twenty20 warm-up loss to West Indies.

Zampa dismissed Denesh Ramdin in his second over at Kolkata but was unable to clean up the tail as skipper Darren Sammy led his side to a three-wicket win.

West Indies were 6-72 in the 12th over but finished 7-162, winning the Eden Gardens encounter with a ball remaining.

Zampa recorded figures of 1-35 from his four overs in the match, which was played on a pitch that took turn.

The legspinner will be one of Australia's key players on Friday, when they start their World T20 campaign against New Zealand in the northern Indian town of Dharamsala.

Finch suggested the 23-year-old should still be feeling confident about his hopes of restricting and rattling batsmen at the T20 tournament.

"He bowled really well," Finch said.

"When you're playing against guys who are brutal hitters of the ball like Andre Russell and Darren Sammy, they can get away with a couple of shots here and there.

"That's exactly what they did. I don't think he got hit from bowling bad balls at all.

"The balls he did get hit for six with were still really good balls."

Finch added that Zampa's form during the recent T20 series in South Africa was also a sign he is on the right track.

"The way he bowled in South Africa, on really good wickets against good players of spin, I'm sure he'll take a lot of confidence from that," the former T20 skipper said.

Josh Hazlewood suggested Zampa would have gained a lot from the experience.

"He learnt a bit tonight on the go. He'll be better off for the run and I hope he keeps improving throughout the tournament," Hazlewood said.
