Englishman's slick footwork leads to catch

England all-rounder Chris Woakes has some slick footwork to thank for eventually taking what should have been an easy catch against the PM’s XI in Canberra.

Woakes was fielding at deep square leg when Papua New Guinea batsman Lega Siaka pulled one off Chris Jordan.

Match footage shows Woakes position himself under the ball and attempt to take the catch when things go awry.

The ball slips from the England all-rounder’s grasp before a second fumble.

With the ball heading for the Manuka Oval turf, Woakes managed to kick it up with his feet before completing the catch with his right hand.

The catch was reminiscent of former Australian captain Mark Taylor’s juggling effort at slip off Michael Bevan during a Test in 1996.

The warm-up match, which England won by 60 runs, featured two amazing innings.

Ian Bell led England to a total of 6/391 with a remarkable 187 off 145 balls before Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell flayed the English attack with a breathtaking 136 from 89 deliveries.
