England have added Sam Billings to their squad for the impending one-day series against Australia, in the initial absence of key allrounder Ben Stokes.

Stokes will miss next weekend's ODI against Scotland and will be replaced by uncapped batsman Dawid Malan.

The England and Wales Cricket Board announced in a statement that Stokes, who was ruled out of the second Test against Pakistan with a hamstring tear, will also miss "the first part of the five-match Royal London ODI series against Australia".

The statement added: "Stokes, who sustained the injury in the build-up to the Test match at Headingley against Pakistan, will be assessed later this week.

"He will continue his rehabilitation programme and will return to his county side Durham on Monday.

The Australia series gets under way at the Oval on Wednesday June 13.
