Dhoni wrongly given out, unable to review

Indian cricket fans describe it as the Dhoni Review System (DRS), such is MS Dhoni's apparent prowess at knowing when to refer umpiring decisions.

But the former skipper had no option but to trudge off the SCG on Saturday night after being wrongly given out when the ODI series opener was in the balance.

Dhoni was trapped lbw by debutant Jason Behrendorff for 51, having shared a 137-run stand with Rohit Sharma.

The ball was pitching outside leg stump but Ambati Rayudu had already unsuccessfully used India's only review earlier in the innings.

Fox commentator Shane Warne described the decision as an "absolute shocker".

Dhoni was a key figure in India's reluctance to adopt the DRS, having harboured doubts about the accuracy of the technology involved.

On this occasion, there was no doubting the ball-tracker could have reprieved the batsman.

Dhoni, playing his 333rd ODI, became just the fifth Indian to break through the 10,000-run barrier in the format.

Dhoni joined Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli in achieving the milestone.
