Australia put in an improved performance in the second Test to break a long win drought with a series-levelling victory over India in Perth.

There were several bright lights that guided the home side to victory but not every performance was worthy of praise.

Legendary former Australian cricket captain Ian Chappell gives his ratings out of 10 for every player in Australia's winning dressing room.

Marcus Harris - 6.5

Built on his promising start in Adelaide and is looking more like a permanent fixture as an opener.

Aaron Finch - 5

A big improvement on Adelaide and deserves an extended trial as an opener. Needs to prove he can assert himself against the new ball at Test level.

Usman Khawaja - 6.5

His ability to fight through tough periods has grown in the last few months and he showed that again in the second innings in Perth.

Shaun Marsh - 6

The same old Shaun Marsh; good one minute and then leaves you grinding your teeth the next.

Peter Handscomb - 3

Is proving what was said about him from the start; that technique can’t work against good bowling.

Travis Head - 6

Still a work in progress but he’s displayed admirable determination and the desire to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Tim Paine - 8

Outdid Kohli in the captaincy stakes; had an excellent game with the gloves and produced two valuable contributions with the bat. Exactly what you want from a captain.

Pat Cummins - 6

Looked dangerous throughout and beat the bat regularly but didn’t get the wickets. Looks the part as a number 8 batsman.

Mitchell Starc - 7.5

Got an early wicket in each innings and continued to look threatening, while also bowling the odd intimidating spell.

Nathan Lyon - 9

A five wicket haul and the dismissal of the opposition’s best batsman in the second innings on a fast, bouncy pitch is an enormous contribution from an off-spinner.

Josh Hazlewood - 7.5

Also took an early wicket in each innings and was his usual consistent self. Found a way with Starc to extend the target with some inventive second innings batting.
