Cricket fan struck on the head by six

A cricket fan has escaped serious injury after being struck on the forehead by a Shane Watson six at the third Twenty20 between Australian and India at the SCG.

Australia’s stand-in captain was facing Ashish Nehra when he sent a delivery whistling over midwicket with a pull shot in the third over.

The ball flew flat towards a man sitting in the first row, who couldn’t stop the ball from hitting his forehead with an attempt at a catch.

A replay shows the ball burst through the rather unrefined catching technique to strike the man just above the eye.

The man was seemingly unhurt despite the blow, delighting in the attention and even speaking on the phone.

“I don’t know about crowd catches, I think that bloke should leave them alone,” Mark Taylor said in commentary after seeing a replay.
