New Zealand cricket fan makes classic one-handed crowd catch to win $50,000 at T20 International

A classic catch worth $50,000 - and a classic reaction - stole the show at the T20 International between Australia and New Zealand at Eden Park on Friday night.

The Tui Brewing Company were offering fans in the crowd wearing their Catch-A-Million promotional orange shirts $50,000 in cold hard cash should they make a one-handed grab during the match.

Mitchell Grimstone, 20, did just that, much to the delight of his mates who swarmed him immediately after the catch, rowdily celebrating his spectacular effort. 

There were sensational scenes when Ross Taylor bashed a six just over the rope at deep square leg off a Andrew Tye delivery and Grimstone took a glorious catch after sticking his left hand over the fence. 

Remarkably, the student is actually right-handed, making his catch even more impressive. 

"Somehow I put it there and it stuck, and then everyone was jumping over me," Grimstone said of the unforgettable moment.

"It still hasn't sunk in really, it's all a blur and it's just amazing, the whole Tui thing and how they've done it."
