McCullum farewelled with spectacular catch

Brendon McCullum has played his final innings for New Zealand, dismissed for 25 in the second Test against Australia.

The retiring New Zealand captain arrived and departed to a standing ovation at Hagley Oval following a typically colourful knock.

His 27-ball stay ended when caught at midwicket by David Warner off Josh Hazlewood.

It was appropriate that McCullum's final scoring shot from the ball before was a six, high over square leg. He holds the record for the most sixes in Test cricket at 107.

The 34-year-old set the Test alight in the first innings with his 145 off 79 balls, scoring the fastest century in Test history in the process.

He was more watchful in his second knock, taking eight balls to get off the mark before opening the shoulders.

New Zealand were 105-4 when he fell, still trailing by 30 runs with more than two days remaining in the Test.

McCullum finishes his 101-Test career with 6453 Test runs at an average of 38.64.
