Swarm of bees causes lengthy delay in South Africa- Sri Lanka cricket match

A stick, a bucket filled with cola and even a fire extinguisher were used in failed attempts to rid Johannesburg’s Wanderers ground of a swarm of bees that caused a one-hour delay in a match between South Africa and Sri Lanka.

After players first used a ‘duck-and -cover’ approach, they eventually left the field amid comical scenes.

The bees, which took a particular liking to a cricket helmet on the field, weren’t scared off by a groundsman wielding a stick and after a slight disturbance, didn’t leave after being hit with the contents of a fire exctinguisher.

Whoever’s idea the bucket of cola was needs to explain themselves.

In the end one bright spark called in an expert who – surprise, surprise – was able to fix the problem. This man’s approach of using honeycomb to gather the bees wasn’t anywhere near as inventive as what preceded him, but it worked a treat.

All in all the delay lasted for 65 minutes.

Oh, and by the way, South African won the match.

The whereabouts of the bees is unknown.
