'Beer snake man' delivers message to Marnus Labuschagne after infamous interruption

The beer-snake-wielding cricket fan who ran through a roped-off area of the Adelaide Oval on Friday night has revealed what was going through his head when he interrupted play in the second Test. 

Lachie Burtt, now better known as "beer snake man", hoisted his pile of beer cups above the sight screen just as India's Mohammed Siraj was about to bowl to Marnus Labuschagne late on day one.

"In my head at that time, I just wanted to get away from the guard, so I saw the space and hopped over the tiny white rope," he told 9News.

The halt in play prompted an angry outburst from Siraj and left Burtt full of regret.

"I didn't really have time to stop and think what I was doing right now and what the effects were going to be because of it," he said.

"I did feel a bit silly, it wasn't the right thing … sorry Marnus."

The tradie was booted from Adelaide Oval for the rest of the day's play on Friday.

"It's probably not the right thing to do, but no one got hurt," Burtt said. 

"I didn't jump the fence or anything. It was one ball, and Marnus (Labuschagne) got a four after that, so no worries."

Adelaide Oval management has not commented specifically on Burtt's actions but said it was happy with how the Test crowds behaved overall.
