Australia one step closer to new Test captain after two candidates interviewed by CA
The inauguration of Pat Cummins as Australia's 47th Test captain seems to be merely a formality now.
The fast bowler was one of only two players interviewed today, along with former captain Steve Smith, whose leadership ban post-sandpapergate has expired.
Cricket Australia said yesterday that selectors George Bailey and Tony Dodemaide, as well as CA board member Mel Jones, CEO Nick Hockley and chair Richard Freudenstein will make up the decision-making quintet.

Both Cummins and Smith were interviewed this afternoon.
The idea of a pace bowling captain has been met with skepticism from some quarters, but every member of the current team who has been asked - including Cummins himself - thinks the NSW quick is up to the task.

Smith would be perfect vice-captain candidate, able to provide guidance for the new skipper, as well as stepping into the breach when Cummins was sidelined, such is the workload of a fast bowler.
After serving a one-year playing ban and a two-year leadership ban, Smith is once again eligible to lead Australia and CA chair Richard Freudenstein said on the weekend that the 32-year-old would be considered for the role.
In addition to being interviewed, Cummins has officially replaced Tim Paine on the cover of Cricket 22 - which could be another indicator as to which way the wind is blowing.
The governing body will come to a final decision in the next couple of days.
Marnus Labuschagne, who was also floated as a potential leadership candidate, was not interviewed at this stage - but remains a name to keep in mind for the future.
