Starc removed Yashasvi Jaiswal with the second ball of the innings when he hit the ball straight to Mitch Marsh at mid-wicket.
"Talk about theatre, that's exactly what we've got so early in this innings," Harsha Bhogle said in commentary for Fox Sports.
Marsh was in the game again when he caught a screamer at gully to send Shubman Gill packing with India 2-6.
"It's the flying bison," Michael Vaughan said.
Australia would have another wicket moments later when Virat Kohli was caught behind off Josh Hazlewood for three with India in serious trouble.
At least three rain delays followed before Pat Cummins had his first wicket of the day, dismissing Rishabh Pant for the third time in the series for nine.
More delays followed before both sides resumed just after 5pm (AEST).
17 balls were all that were delivered as bad light and rain impacted play again, bringing an end to the day as India ended the day at 4-51 with KL Rahul (33no) and Rohit Sharma (0no) both at the crease.
Overall, day three consisted of 33 overs with seven wickets falling for 91 runs.
