Teenaged batter Sam Konstas gets first taste of life as a Test cricketer in MCG nets session

Teenaged batting sensation Sam Konstas has had his first taste of life as a Test star on Monday, as he joined the Australian side at the MCG ahead of the Boxing Day Test.

The 19-year-old was the centre of attention as he took to the nets for the first time with his teammates, who will take on India in the fourth Test on Thursday.

And Konstas couldn't look more relaxed on the big stage if he tried.

"Pat Cummins and the group have welcomed me in. It feels like a family. It's been awesome, a dream come true," Konstas said at the MCG on Monday.

"I have great mentors in Pat Cummins, Steve Smith. They've welcomed me with open arms."

He has already spent time with his would-be opening batting partner, Usman Khawaja, as well.

"Caught up with him yesterday (Sunday). Just welcoming me. We will have a few chats later on," he said.

"Hopefully get to experience (batting with) him ... at the MCG.

"He's a legend of the game, all three formats. Keen to learn from him."

Konstas is poised to replace outgoing debutant Nathan McSweeney, who took his axing professionally and smacked an impressive 78 runs off 49 balls in Brisbane Heat's win over the Strikers on Sunday night.

And while Konstas hasn't officially been named in the side just yet, he's preparing exactly like someone who is ready to debut on Boxing Day.

"It's just another day for me, but it's a bit more special. Obviously got my parents coming," he said.

As for his plans when the time comes to head out into the middle, the youngster wants to keep it as normal as possible.

"Pretty simple, just back myself. See ball, hit ball, really," he said.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is tied at 1-1, after the third Test at the Gabba was rained out and ended in a draw.
