'I don't want to leave': Beau Webster hungry to be given Test chance as calls to hand him Baggy Green grow

Australian all-rounder Beau Webster has declared his 'hunger' to earn a baggy green ahead of the Boxing Day Test on Thursday.

Webster has been travelling with the Australian squad but it yet to formally debut in the side, who will take on India in the fourth Test at the MCG.

As the back-up all-rounder, it seems like he may not get his chance during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with Mitch Marsh looking likely to keep his spot for the remaining two Tests.

And despite his cool demeanour, just being around the Test team has made the 31-year-old hungry to one day get his opportunity.

Although, he's none the wiser as to when exactly that chance may come.

"I don't know mate," Webster said at the MCG when asked if he would play on Thursday.

"Obviously we've already got an all-rounder. He's filling that spot and I'm just here to cover him."

Marsh however hasn't exactly set the world on fire with bat or ball in hand this Test summer.

In the opening Test in Perth, Marsh made six off 19, but recovered in his second innings, smacking 47 off 67, as the host nation went down by a whopping 295 runs.

In the second Test in Adelaide, which ended in an Australia win, Marsh made just nine off 26.

And in the third Test at the Gabba, he made just five off 16 and two off 13 in his two batting innings.

It gives Webster a glimmer of hope that a chance may present itself.

"Once you're in this environment, you get a real hunger to stay around," Webster said.

"Like I said, it's a great group, a very enjoyable group.

"Once I've been in the changerooms and rubbing shoulders with these guys, I don't want to leave."

The Boxing Day Test starts on Thursday morning at the MCG, with the series tied at 1-all.
