'Done talking about that': Travis Head distances himself from 'unwanted distraction' amid Australia-India series
Travis Head has explained the decision to distance himself from the Test opener debate, describing it as an "unwanted distraction" prior to the summer.
The 30-year-old was the only Australian player to score a half-century in the first game of the series against India last week, but it wasn't enough to stop a mammoth defeat.
Prior to the series kicking off, Head was mentioned as a potential solution to the major conundrum facing selectors, who eventually opted to go with Nathan McSweeney.

Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, the left-hander gave a pointed answer as to why he wouldn't be publicly commenting on the ongoing selection debate anymore.

"I don't think it needs to be spoken about," Head said.
"I think it just creates too much bullshit really. That's just my point of view.
"I want whatever is right for the team, but in the way I answered it, people interpret it in certain ways. So I'm done with talking about that conversation. Some of those conversations need to stay in-house, that's how it will be.
"I don't want to put anyone in a [difficult] position, I don't want to cause a headline or miscommunication or confusion in another player.
"It's an unwanted distraction for me and I think it would be an unwanted distraction in how it's interpreted by other people. Someone is reading at home who's an opening batter and all of a sudden it comes out that I want to."
Head has been one of the more consistent Aussie performers in recent years across multiple formats, finding a home at No.5 in red-ball cricket.

However, head coach Andrew McDonald has flagged that Head could be shuffled to the top of the order when the side travel to Sri Lanka in early-2025.
"I'm open to whatever looks like us winning a game of cricket," Head said.
"That's for 'Ron' and 'Cummo' [Pat Cummins] and the selectors to worry about. All I can do is play well, and if I fit somewhere different in the puzzle, whether that be in the position I feel most comfortable or if it's somewhere I don't, that doesn't ever faze me.
"I haven't got one set position."
Head also backed McSweeney to turn things around at Adelaide Oval, claiming the rising star is "the right man" to face the new ball.
