'Wipe it out of your memory': Mark Waugh's advice to floundering Aussies after first Test embarrassment
Updated . First published at
Things came to a bitter end in Perth, with India claiming a massive 295-run victory over Australia in the first Test, handing the hosts their worst loss at home in over a decade.
In one of the darkest Test outings for the Aussies in recent memory, India wasted no time on day four in taking the first victory of the Border-Gavaskar series.
And it's left former Australian Test star Mark Waugh with one simple message.

"You've just got to wipe it out of your memory," he said on Fox Cricket.
"I don't think we need to dwell on it, every individual work hard, forget about today and move on."

The day began miserably, with veteran opener Usman Khawaja dismissed early on day four, leaving Australia 4-17 after just six overs.
There was a brief period of relief for Australia, as Travis Head piled on a trademark counter-attacking 89 off 101, before being caught behind in the 39th over.
Mitch Marsh (47 off 67) fell shortly after, with a failed cut short played onto his stumps.
Just before tea, Mitch Starc (12 off 35) was dismissed by a brilliant catch from Dhruv Jurel, who caught him with a one-handed screamer at bat pad.

That catch summed up another dark day for Australia and proved India would stop at nothing to seal victory a day early.
Two balls after the tea break saw Nathan Lyon dismissed, leaving India one wicket away from victory. A sour end to the day saw Harshit Rana's (1-69) ball smack Josh Hazlewood in the back of the head.
Alex Carey also copped a ball to the side of the body two overs later off Rana.
Just two balls later, Rana bowled Carey (36 off 58), giving India a 1-0 lead.
Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was handed player of the match honours, taking 8-72 across both innings.
What lies ahead before the day-night Test in Adelaide will be up to the selectors.
But Waugh had a few suggestions as to how the Aussies stamp some authority and bring some intensity back into their lacklustre opening Test performance.

"Tactically with the ball, I think Australia need to be more aggressive, make the Indian batsmen feel a little more uncomfortable. "A bit more energy in the field," he said.
"Each individual player has got to look at their own game, and how they can improve.
"I thought we were a little bit naive in some of our batting, particularly against Bumrah, the right-handers."
India have now won four of their past five Test matches on Australian soil
