Aust cricket side feels aftershock in NZ

The 4.3 magnitude earthquake that struck Christchurch on Thursday night is not expected to have any impact on the second trans-Tasman cricket Test.

The aftershock to last Sunday's 5.7 magnitude quake hit the New Zealand city at 7.17pm local time on Thursday.

"A few things may have fallen off shelves, but I would be surprised to hear if there was much damage because of its offshore location," seismologist John Ristau told the NZ Herald.

The second Test at Hagley Oval is set to start on Saturday, as originally scheduled.

Australia and New Zealand are expected to train at the venue on Friday, while both squads are staying in the first hotel to be built in the city after the 2011 quake.

Minor aftershocks are likely to continue in the next few days.

"Just felt my first Christchurch quake. Bizarre feeling," Australian batsman Usman Khawaja tweeted.
